DILG XI Congratulates 44 Graduates of Banaybanay CSO Academy

The DILG XI lauded the pioneering forty-four (44) CSO leaders who successfully completed the CSO 101 Training Program of the Banaybanay CSO Academy on January 27, 2025 at the Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU)-Banaybanay Campus, Barangay San Vicente, Banaybanay, Davao Oriental under the theme “Empowering Banaybanay CSO Leaders: Strengthening CSO Impact through Self-Empowerment, Mentorship, Partnership, and Action”.

The Banaybanay CSO Academy was established in July 2024 by DOrSU, Municipal Government of Banaybanay, and the Banaybanay CSO Network, with technical assistance from the DILG. The CSO Academy envisions to be a learning hub for empowering community leaders and civil society organizations in Banaybanay and building a culture of participatory and good governance. It also aims to achieve an empowered community where every citizen actively participates in sustainable development, driving positive social change and enhancing the quality of life for all.

DILG XI regional director Abdullah V. Matalam in his message, emphasized the need to strengthen and sustain the capacity development program for CSOs to ensure their effective engagement in local governance. Banaybanay mayor Lemuel Ian M. Larcia commended the 44 CSO graduates and committed to fully support the initiatives of the CSOs as the main partner of the LGU in advancing good local governance and improving local service delivery. Dr. Misael B. Clapano, vice president for research, innovations, and extension of DOrSU, emphasized the importance of building and sustaining partnerships in pursuit of a regenerative development.

The CSO graduates expressed their gratitude to the Banaybanay CSO Academy for the skills and learnings they acquired in the training program. They also committed to participate in the upcoming activities and encourage more CSOs to enroll in the Academy.

The Banaybanay CSO Academy was recognized by the DILG Central Office as one of the pioneering CSO Academies in the country that promote the principles of Open Government Partnership, during the National CSO Conference held on September 17-19, 2024 in Pampanga.
