Strengthening Our Frontliners: Barangay Tanods Across Davao Region Trained for Better Community Service

The Department of the Interior and Local Government Region XI (DILG XI) successfully conducted the Rollout Training on Barangay Tanod Skills Enhancement on August 11–13, 2026 at The Ritz Hotel at Garden Oases, Davao City.

The three-day training brought together Barangay Tanods from Davao City and the different provinces, cities, and municipalities across Davao Region through a hybrid learning setup. Selected Barangay Tanods from 45 barangays in Davao City attended onsite, while the remaining barangays of Davao City and Barangay Tanods from across the region participated through Zoom and the DILG XI Official Facebook Live.

The training covered four major modules: Module 1: The Profile of a Barangay Tanod; Module 2: Gender-Sensitive, Child-Friendly, and Culture-Sensitive Barangay Tanod; Module 3: First Responder’s Role; and Module 4: Operations. Participants gained practical knowledge on human rights-based peacekeeping, Katarungang Pambarangay, crime scene protection and preservation, crisis management, incident report writing, basic patrol operations, traffic assistance, and arrest, search, and seizure.

The training also featured hands-on activities and scenario-based workshops, including planning appropriate actions before, during, and after an incident, as well as preparing a Spot Incident Report based on a given situation. Beyond the technical sessions, the training provided a platform for Barangay Tanods to share their actual experiences, concerns, and operational challenges during the open forums—allowing these concerns to be noted for appropriate coordination and possible action. Through this initiative, DILG XI continues to support the strengthening of Barangay Tanods as frontline partners in maintaining peace, order, and public safety in our communities.
