Advancing Good Local Governance in Davao Region Through Multi-Stakeholder Convergence
For CY 2023, out of 54 LGUs of Region XI, 21 LGUs passed the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) or an equivalent of 38.88% which is higher than the national passing rate of 28.75%.
“It is vital to advance regional convergence to increase the number of SGLG-passer LGUs of Region XI”, said DILG XI OIC Regional Director Abdullah V. Matalam during the Regional Convergence Meeting on the SGLG on June 24, 2024, at the Grand Manseng Hotel, Pichon St., Davao City.
Representatives from regional line agencies, civil society organizations, local resource institutes, and DILG field officers attended the said convergence meeting that aimed to present the Regional Institutional Development Support (RIDS) program of the DILG to its partner stakeholders. The RIDS was developed by the Support for the Local Governance – Project Management Office and Bureau of Local Government Supervision of the DILG Central Office.
SLGP representative Glenn Q. Miranda said that “the RIDS aims to identify the specific governance areas and indicators that were not passed by the local government units in the SGLG assessment last year and to provide the needed capacity development interventions and technical assistance”.
Further, BLGS resource person LGOO V Kristen Aragon-Tomial reiterated that the Seal of Good Local Governance was institutionalized through Republic Act No. 11292 or an Act Establishing and Institutionalizing the Seal of Good Local Governance for Local Government Units in 2019. The SGLG, an institutionalized award, incentive, honor, and recognition-based program, remains steadfast in its pledge to promote inclusive and people-centric reforms.
This year marks a momentous milestone in the SGLG. It celebrates a decade of recognizing and incentivizing local government units for their commitment to good governance practices, as embodied in the theme “Isang Dekada ng Pagkilala sa Tapat at Mahusay na Pamamahala”. With this, the SGLG shall continue highlighting the achievements and progress made over the past decade while emphasizing the efforts vital to upholding sound local governance principles of transparency, accountability, and effective public service delivery.
The SGLG Regional Convergence under the RIDS shall be regularly convened as one of the strategies for upholding good local governance principles of transparency, accountability, and effective public service delivery.
